ESM has had a Driver Education program since the high school opened in the 1965-66 school year. Some districts have eliminated their Driver Education program due to rising costs. Student course fees in other Onondaga County school districts currently range from $375 to $525 per student.
To continue this valuable program, the District has made several changes to keep it viable. Acquiring the necessary Driver Education vehicles at no cost or a nominal fee to ESM has become challenging during these difficult economic times. To help alleviate the financial impact of this program, ESM implemented a student course fee to support this program beginning July 2009. The charge for ESM students will be $350 while the cost for non-resident students will be $500. ESM Students who receive reduced lunch or free lunch can qualify for a reduced rate for Driver Education. The necessary form is available in the Registrar’s office.
This summer Driver Education will run from June 26th to August 17th and classes will be held Monday through Thursday each week with the exception of the July 4th week which will run Wednesday through Friday. Students will be scheduled for a drive class as well as a lecture class. Students can miss a maximum of 3 classes during the session. Students must schedule a time with their Driver Education teacher to make up all absences.
Registration forms may be printed from the attachment below or be picked up in the Registrar's office at the high school. Out-of-District students may print out the registration form for Out-of-District students and mail it to the high school (address is on the form). Registration begins Monday, April 10th and closes when spots are filled or on Friday, June 9th.
