21st Century Learning
All children in America need 21st century knowledge and skills to become effective citizens, workers and leaders in the 21st century. ESM's new vision and mission embrace 21st century learning. Our new five-year strategic plan strives for it.
To help students successfully face rigorous higher education coursework, career challenges and a globally competitive workforce, ESM is aligning classrooms with real world environments by integrating 21st century skills.
Examples of this integration at ESM include:
Dr. Donna J. DeSiato, ESM Superintendent, was interviewed November 4, 2009 on New Hampshire Public Radio's Word of Mouth Show for a segment on Teaching for the Future. Click here for information and to listen to the interview.
Keith Ward's High School English students video conferenced with a class of college students at SUNY Cortland who were participating in a Young Adult Literature Course in October 2009. See blog entry from the Central New York Regional Information Center.
Pine Grove students are using digital video technology kits thanks to a grant from Assemblywoman Joan Christensen. The kits are part of a pilot program designed by Tiffany A. Koszalka in Syracuse University's School of Education, in collaboration with ESM's Timothy Patterson.

21st Century Learning Origins
An organization called the Partnership for 21st Century Skills has emerged as the leading advocacy organization focused on infusing 21st century skills into education.
The Partnership brings together the business community, education leaders, and policymakers to define a powerful vision for 21st century education to ensure every child's success. ESM is embracing this model.
There is a profound gap between the knowledge and skills most students learn in school and the knowledge and skills they need in typical 21st century communities and workplaces. Through its new strategic plan, ESM is positioning itself to meet this challenge.
