Strategic Planning
ESM has concluded a collaborative process that resulted in a multi-year strategic plan with priorities and goals for the District, as well as action steps to achieve the goals. The Board of Education approved the plan June 30.
This strategic plan will be a teaching and learning blueprint for the future and will allow us to assess and adjust our direction in response to a changing environment. The strategic plan will include a set of beliefs, a mission, a vision, and more importantly, the goals and activities that are necessary to fulfill the mission.
The process began in September 2007 and took about nine months. It culminated with a recommendation for a strategic plan and implementation strategy to the Superintendent and then to the Board of Education for adoption.
Core Team:
Development of the multi-year plan involved a core team of representatives from the District, area businesses, parents, students, local organizations, and the community at large. Click here for a list of Core Team Members, meeting dates and minutes.
Dr. Diane Reed of PLC Associates, Inc. in Rochester is facilitating the activities of the strategic plan development and serving as project leader with guidance from Judy Morgan, ESM's Executive Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability; and Dr. Thomas Neveldine, ESM's Deputy Superintendent.

Public Input:
To kick-off the process ESM mailed a survey to all residents in September 2007. The District also hosted two brainstorming sessions called "Community Cafes" in September—one for students and another for various stakeholders. In November and December, four focus groups were also convened for input. This information was key to developing a viable strategic plan.
